There was a time when meeting at the Frankfurt trade fair was an unmissable event, a moment eagerly awaited by all industry professionals: the chance to discover new market developments, meet suppliers from around the world, reconnect with colleagues who became friends, exchange ideas and build relationships destined to last.
For over 30 years, Prolight + Sound has represented all this and much more.
The entertainment world is going through a profound phase of change, and the reference trade fair is evolving with it. In September 2025, Messe Frankfurt closed the early bird booking period for the edition scheduled from 24 to 26 March 2026, without reaching a sufficient number of exhibitors to guarantee an event that lived up to expectations.
With a sense of responsability and transparency toward companies and professionals, the organization chose to cancel the standalone edition of Prolight + Sound 2026 and integrate the entire format within Light + Building 2026, scheduled from 8 to 13 March 2026. This decision opens new synergies between the worlds of professional lighting, digital signage and technological security.
From an independent event, Prolight + Sound will now become a major thematic area located in the eastern section of the Frankfurt exhibition ground. Exhibitors will have access to a dedicated space within a much broader and more international platform. A concrete opportunity to reach new targets and markets: the latest edition of Light + Building welcomed over 151.000 visitors from all around the world.
And that's not all. To further enhance this new experience, Messe Frankfurt is developping a dedicated supporting program, with themed guided tour designed to promote networking, knowledge-sharing and connections between professionals in lighting, audio-video, entertainment and security.
"With this decision, we are responding pragmatically to the needs of manufacturers and the market. It was essential to act responsibly and promptly to prevent unnecessary investments for our clients. The Prolight + Sound brand remains strategic for our portfolio: we will continue to invest in it."
- Wolfgang Marzin, CEO Messe Frankfurt
Through this new format, a modern trade fair taked shape, one aimed at strenghtening the connection between architectural and stage lighting, digital communication, intelligent security solutions and everything that revolves around the professional entertainment industry.
Let us conclude with a thought that is close to our hearts.
We live in an increasingly digital world, where independent online purchasing is progressively replacing direct contact with distributors, and where "cheap" products often seem to prevail over quality. Trade fairs, on the other hand, have always been special places where people truly met, exchanged ideas and experienced firsthand the creative magic of a unique sector.
In this constantly changing context, what will be the future of industry trade fairs?
Perhaps this is precisely the moment to understand how to evolve, without losing the essence that, for years, made our trade faird unforgettable.
