Safety and Corrosion Resistance: Why Choose A4 Stainless Steel for Professional Installations

To meet the needs of technicians, setup crews and rigging professionals working in environments exposed to the elements, where reliability and long-term durability are essential, Amlux has introduced a new line of stainless steel safety hooks and cables. These products comply with the highest European standards, providing professionals with durable equipment and a certified solution.

In the rigging and lighting installation sector, choosing components is not just a matter of load capacity, but of chemical durability. In environments with high environmental stress, common galvanized steel or aluminum accessories can fail prematurely due to complex degradation phenomena.

The Problem: Galvanic Corrosion and Aggressive Agents

Humidity, chlorine and salt are catalysts for electrochemical reactions. When materials with different electrical potentials (such as aluminum structures and galvanized steel hooks) come into contact in the presence of an electrolyte (saltwater or chlorinated moisture), galvanic corrosion is triggered. This process accelerates the degradation of the less noble metal, compromising the structural safety of the entire system.

The Solution: A4 Stainless Steel (Marine Grade)

For installations in extreme environments such as cruise ships, wellness centers, swimming pools and outdoor stages in coastal areas, the benchmark standard is A4 stainless steel, also known as Marine Grade. The key difference lies in its chemical composition: the addition of molybdenum (Mo) to the alloy provides exceptional resistance to pitting corrosion caused by chlorides.

Technical Characteristics of V4A AISI 316 Steel:

  • Optimal Composition: Chromium-Nickel-Molybdenum alloy ensuring stability in salt spray and acidic industrial atmospheres.
  • Strength Classes: Available as A4-70 (annealed) and A4-80 (high strength), indicating the material’s tensile strength.
  • International Classification: Identified by material number 1.4401 (according to EN 10088).
  • Ideal Applications: Marine environments, spas, water parks and permanent outdoor installations where maintenance must be minimized and safety maximized.

Stainless steel safety cables

At Amlux you can find stainless steel safety cables for the events industry compliant with DGUV 215-313 (formerly BGV C1 or BGI 810-3 – safety in events and productions). They are ideally suited for loads suspended above people ranging from 2 to 64 kg. They also comply with the European standard DIN 13414-1 and are made with a high number of strands (7 or 19 depending on the diameter), ensuring both excellent flexibility and increased stability. Each cable is crimped at the end with a DIN 6899 thimble to protect the steel rope at the load suspension point and is equipped with a quick connector (clamp) compliant with DIN 56927 Form A.

A4 stainless steel clamps

Choosing a coherent system is essential to maintain a high level of safety. For this reason in combination with A4 stainless steel safety cables, we recommend using the new stainless steel hooks from Duratruss, made of 6081 aluminum and 316 (18/10) stainless steel. Same strength, with no weak points.

As with all solutions offered by Amlux this new line is also designed for professional use, with particular attention to safety aspects and proper application in suspension systems. For each product, technical information is available, such as materials, construction features, and areas of use, to support informed decision-making during the design and installation phases.

The range is continuously evolving and will be progressively expanded with new items and related technical specifications.

Choosing A4 steel is not an additional cost, but an investment in the lifespan of the installation, eliminating the risks of structural failure and the frequent replacement costs caused by oxidation.
